Trimming Guide to the Pomeranian by Denise Leo
Firstly,
let me make mention that this is only the way I trim
my Pomeranians.I am sure everyone has their own way
of doing this.
Another
important thing to remember is that no two Pomeranians
are the same and all trimming should be done to enhance
that particular Pomeranian. Trim a little, let the Pomeranian
rest and run around the floor, while you evaluate what
else you think needs doing, trim a little more, give
the Pomeranian a run around - I repeat this until I
am happy with the result.
Try
and trim the Pomeranian at least a few days before the
show.
I
must also point out that I have not put these photos
in the order of trimming.
I
start by fully brushing the Pomeranian completely out,
no knots ,every hair must be seperated. Then I cut the
toenails as short as possible. If the toenails are long
you may not be able to get the nails as short as desired
in one session. So in about 5 days time try and cut
the nails again as short as possible. Once you get your
Pomeranians nail short, keep them that way. When allowed
to get long, the blood supply to the nails also grows
to nearly the end of the nail.
I
trim in this order-[ Again this is just the order I
feel comfortable with!]
1/
Trim the top of the ears first.
2/
I then trim the feet and legs.
3/
I then trim the ruff around the head and then the bib.
4/
I now trim all along the body reaching the tail end.
5/
trim the tail
6/
trim the pants
7/
I lay the Pomeranian on it's back and trim the coat
on it's underside, again still working in a circle.
8/
I then stand the Pomeranian up and very carefully trim
any straggily hair hanging down between the front and
back legs to give a nice outline.
9/I
trim the feathering on the front legs to blend in with
the body coat and to what I think would suit that particluar
Pomeranian.[If your Pomeranian does not have a perfect
front you do not want feathering flapping everywhere
when your Pomeranian moves to draw attention to the
faulty front movement!!!!]
I hope the following images are
clear enough to give you an idea of my method of trimming
a Pomeranian.
